Skill: Common gateway interface (CGI) script
 
Definition
A program that is executed when a Web server wants to carry out some processing that requires an interface to an application such as a database management system. For example, when the user fills in details in an HTML formand sends that form to the server a CGI script is the program that normally carries out the processing associated with the form. CGI scripts can now be written in a variety of languages although the most popular language used has been Perl.
